Henry Wind/s confusion
« on: Monday 14 August 23 10:12 BST (UK) »
Hi Folks, I have been following the Wind Trees in Durham County, yDNA is not sooo helpful yet other than to show that my Wind tree does not seem related to southern England Welsh families. It has a typically NE England "danish" root. So, I think there is more than one common ancestor to the Winds in Durham county. As a result, I am looking at all the downstream male lines to see current relationships. I have two baptisms for a Henry Wind. One 1804, Urpeth/Lamesley Chester Le Street parents John and Margaret Teasdale. The other Gateshead, B1802 baptised 1805 parents Henry and Isabella, Gateshead.
Now, for marriages, I have a Henry married to a Elizabeth Sprig, 1827. Elizabeth seems to be an illegitimate dau of Priscilla Sprig of Tanfield but that does not "seem" to gel with census stating Walbottle as a birthplace.
The 1851, 61 census has a Henry Wind married to a Catherine E apparently born Walbottle (Newcastle). Also on the marriage, Henry is a clerk but most other places, the Henry married to "Elizabth" is a coalminer. He also has a name variation of Winn and Wynne on census records.
My confusion & questions are :
1 What happened to Henry of Urpeth?
2 Is Catherine and Elizabeth the same person?
3 is there a "conflation" of Henries?

Thanks for any insights into the "Henry's" and wive/wives.

Good Morning
Let's start with question no 1
The blunt answer is he died age 1.
Henry born 19th July 1804 according to his baptism. There is a burial for a Henry age 1 23rd March 1906 in the same parish of Lamesley
no2
It does look like they are the same person.
If we look at the children
Priscilla bapt Lamesley 29.3.1829 ,Isabella born 1833 ,Mary Jane bapt 12.6.1836 Lamesley,Elizabeth born Dec qtr Easington bapt 7.1.1838 Kelloe, Ann 21.7.1839 Kelloe and then
Catharine Spriggs Winn born June qtr 1844 buried 11 Sep 1844
Catharine Spriggs Winne bapt 8.2.1846 with twin Sarah Ellen of Birtly pitman Lamesley.Sarah buried 12.9.1846.
John Henry June 1850 died Sep 1850
All the ones after 1837 have a mother's maiden name Sprig or Spigggs.
So the same woman. The marriage  original image has no mention of Henry as a clerk or any thing else.William Charlton clerk is one of the witnesses. No marital status but given their ages probably their first marriage.
Priscilla Winn is named after her mother and Isabella after his Isabella Hutchinson d of Edward.
It all fits ,but as you say that birthplace for Elizabeth/Catherine is out .

Priscilla Spriggs 1768- 14 Oct 1838 Newburn of the Quarries
The baptism  of her daughter gives her as Mrs Precilla so she could be a widow.
Henry Spriggs married a Priscilla Craig 29 April 1797 at Alnwick
A son John Craig Spriggs 1797 bapt 3.6.1798 at Alnwick
I can't see a baptism or  death for Henry or a baptism Priscilla.

It looks like there is own one Henry Winn who made it to adulthood and went on to have children.
Hope that helps.
