Where are the IGI records?
« on: Friday 18 August 23 15:09 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I have started going through and checking my genealogy record sources and ones that I found in the IGI on familysearch a few years ago are no longer there!

What has happened to the IGI?

Eg: cannot find the baptism of Bridget Dobson in Dufton Westmorland England 7 May 1607.

Still on Family Search!
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/igi

and still not a 'source' but at best a pointer to where to look for  the actual records. So many of the entries in the I.G.I. were 'user submitted' and not anywhere near as accurate as anyone would wish.

Hi
This one was not user submitted.

Also cannot find her marriage 17 Jul 1625 Dufton to Christopher Elwood.

How sure are you about that?

If you go to that page KGarrard gave you the link to then it says that the indexed records that were in the IGI (those transcribed for microfilms/actual records that the LDS hold) can be searched from the screen on that page.

It goes on to say 'user contributions' can be searched in the Contributed International Genelogical Index collection
https://www.familysearch.org/search/genealogies/collection/5

and there does indeed seem to be a Bridget Dobson, said to be baptised 1607 at Dufton in 'that' collection

Yes, I have seen the data in the Trees on familysearch.

There seems to be a whole bunch of Dufton data missing from IGI though.

Thanks for looking

Yes the user contributed entries in the old IGI are what is missing from this new search which only includes indexed records.

This from the Cumberland Archives catalogue:

https://archiveweb.cumbria.gov.uk/CalmView/Record.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog&id=WPR+41%2f1%2f1%2f1

If you are in the area then that says Kendal Library  have microfilm with the registers for this time frame.
If you are unable to go, then asking on the county board for a look up may result in someone local looking for you if they are going

Or a request to the library may result in them looking for you, but there may well be a charge for that.
