old dog wanting to learn a new trick
« on: Sunday 03 September 23 08:24 BST (UK) »
Hi, over the years I have ordered hundred's of GRO certificates. With the advance of technology I want to order a digital copy of a birth c1857. However hard as I try once I complete the registration details it appears that I can only get an £11 image. Can someone run me through process please as to where I might be going wrong.

I have selected births in 1843 and 1853.
On selecting the button next to the relevant birth, I am presented with options for Certificate, PDF and Digital Image?

Which birth are you looking for?
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

The only way to order a digital copy is to start by searching the births/deaths (rather than completing the form as you do when ordering a cert)
Once you have the result you are looking for then select it  and that reveals the available options for the format (paper cert/pdf/digital image) you want.

Select which format you want and then follow through the order procedure.

Isn't it super to get the info you want instantly?

Do bear in mind that sometimes the image has been scanned off centre and therefore only partially visible and missing vital info.
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/faq.asp
item 13 (right at the bottom of that page) tells you how to report the problem.
They aren't able to put it right/ rescan and replace the image but will (after a week or so) email you to tell you they have refunded your £2.50 and tell you that you have the option of ordering a pdf (next cheapest option at £7).
