did you notice Daniel now runs a pub in 1834 ??? - so - in 1841 census is he still running the pub ??
hope this helps in some way xx

In the 1841 census, he is a mariner in St. Thomas, Liverpool, with surviving children Elizabeth aged 15, and Mary, aged 6.  Both Daniel and Martha indicate they were not born in the county while the children were.

Even in 1911, William Fletcher of 84 Poulette street gives his origin as "German". For the purposes of Canadian censuses, this is always the male-line origin.

Agreed that the birthplace of England in two records only found at the end of his life may be just a mistake, perhaps some confusion from his time in the House of Refuge. Everything else seems to point to the German man who is present in Ontario for many years.

Peter Fletcher (Austrian), married to a Dorothy, with a son William aged 2, is on the Ontario census of 1861.

Just adding:  there may also be another earlier baptism,
as it is close to the area & date they were married  ;)

Adding: Here's the image...Buried in a mixup of jumbled together dates.
and he is listed as occ: Husbandman...Thus the more rural abode!
