Thanks for all your replies. The family history team at Perth and Kinross Archives have searched for me and they say that John Brewster from Cargill never left Scotland. This has been confirmed by a professional researcher. Only officer's service records of the 10th Hussars appear to have survived.
I am clutching at straws, but I am hoping somebody may know if pay lists might contain that information.

I have seen the 10th Hussars pay list from 1812-1816, it only lists by name - private John Brewster. No other information.

I think it prudent to take his age on the 1841 census as very approx. and look at a wider birth date. His age at death points to him being born about 1793, but he could have been older than that.
As already pointed out, Brewster is a not common name in Scotland.

I always prefer to do the research myself. Professional researchers are limited by time and money.

Have you considered / looked at these? It might be fairly easy to eliminate some.

Hello, Thanks for your reply. They have all been eliminated apart from John Brewster from Botriphnie.

There are no records of him in Scotland after his baptism, so he is the most likely person.

Thanks again.
