HELP - 1901 CENSUS
« on: Friday 09 September 05 22:05 BST (UK) »
The 1901 Census for Houghton le Spring Workhouse includes Ann Bell Clavering, inmate, 86, widow of a coal miner, born in West Herrington.
Try as I might, I can find no other trace of this woman in earlier census'.
Her death is recorded in  June 1902, but where has she been all her life?

Yes, I had seen that. I am trying to do a one name study on the Clavering family.
According to my records, this Benjamin Clavering married Ann Brown, so the Bell part of the name in 1901 seems out of place with this Ann.

After searching the 1891 census, I finally found Matthew Clavering in Hetton le Hole, with wife Isabella. The entry was transcribed Clausing.
Further checks brought the information that his second wife was Ann Isabella Hepple.
So at last the mystery is solved!
