George Walter HAWKES, b. 23 October 1921
« on: Saturday 07 October 23 21:41 BST (UK) »
Hi.

George Walter Hawkes was in the Canadian forces in WW2 and based in the Windsor area in England.

Does anyone know how I can get his records in order to find out when he left the UK and his unit.

Also how can I find out if and when he returned to the UK. Are there any records of travel from Canada to the UK?

Thank you
SNG

His service records will not be available to you unless you are a Canadian resident and can make an Access to Information Request AND you can prove he has been deceased for more than 20 years.

There are incoming passenger records into the UK up to 1960 but I'm not seeing his return in these records.  There is also an online tree for him indicating he died in New Brunswick on 22 January 1998.  You can request a copy of his death certificate from NB.

Thank you Eileen.

I saw that tree on ancestry. The indication on it was that he returned to Canada in 1947.

Thank you for your help.

There is a marriage in Windsor district for a George W. Hawkes in 1943 to an Olive Palastanga. Perhaps the same individual?

Olive Frances Palastanga was b Windsor December 1920

Olive Frances Hawkes died 2005 Berkshire

There were 4 children born to the marriage between 1946 - 1957 so he presumably was in England on at least 4 occasions 🤣

Did he though CaroleW ???

This is why I am trying to find out if there are any records showing passenger lists between Canada and the UK.

Although the BMD indexes indicate that the parents are the same for the four siblings, no father’s name is mentioned on the birth certificates.
All that is written is Olive Frances Hawkes formally Palastanga on the three younger siblings.

DNA tests are currently being undertaken by the brothers to see if they do have the same father.

It would appear that at least from 1956-61 Berkshire Electoral Registers, Olive F Hawkes was living in the same household as a Henry G (George) Pomfret, 54, Foster Avenue, Windsor. Does that address show on the 1957 birth record of ( last child) a son
