Exning marriage or banns 1806-1812 William Tilley
« on: Tuesday 10 October 23 22:35 BST (UK) »
Hi
I would be grateful if anyone with access to the parish records of Exning could search for any record of the marriage of William Tilley born Exning 1780 or if these no longer exist possibly the records of baptism for his sons Joseph 1818 or John 1815. In census records their birthplace is recorded as Landwade, Cambs which I understand is/was part of Exning. I am searching for the name of William's spouse.
Thank you, Matriach

Can't help with a marriage or baptisms yet. I'm guessing you have William born c1780 from the 1861 census, with son Joseph and family.

In 1841 at Exning, there is Joseph TILLEY (born c1818) and John TILLEY (born c1815). Also at Exning are James TILLEY (born c1805) and Thomas TILLEY (born c1810), so other possible sons of William.

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M73Z-6N9  (John)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M73Z-66B  (Thomas)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M73Z-67Q  (James)

Shame I can't find William on the 1841 or 1851 - will keep looking.

Modified to add:
I see the Exning and Landwade 1851 census are permanently missing. Shame.

FreeReg has the above marriage

1841 Census
HO107/73/5/F6/p7
Market Street, Fordham, Newmarket
William Tilly 61 Ag Lab
Mary Tilly 56
Mary Tilly 21
Henry Tilly 7

In 1851 Mary is with daughter Mary and son in law Thomas Pavis (transcribed as Pairs) in Ditton Green, Newmarket. Unfortunately no marital status is given. Mary married Thomas Pavis in 1841. Although her surname is given as Tilbrook on the marriage details, Tthe mmn on the births of her children is Tilley.

I haven't been able to find William in 1851. His wife Mary died in 1852 and was buried in Exning 19 September of that year

Hi
Thank you for all the help and suggestions folks. I doubt the original records  I need exist any longer or Familysearch, Ancestry etc would have filmed/digital copies by now. Although the 1861 census states that William was born in Exning I'm not sure that this is correct. My ancestor, his son Thomas was born at Creeksea, Essex. I have a DNA match with a descendant of Joseph so believe I have the right family so far.  I will investigate the  Market Street family further. There is also a family at Great Waltham, Essex that may be a possibilty.
Thanks again, Matriach
