Family Book
« on: Friday 27 October 23 11:55 BST (UK) »
I am in possession of a handsome leather bound book about polar exploration.  I inherited it from my mother and in the front it is inscribed "Edward William Bick, Rushden House, March 26th 1879."
Edward (His actual name was William Edward) was my Mother's great uncle and he would have been 16 in the year in question. (born 1863). I have been trying to find Rushden House without success.  I thought it might have been a school prize and a very handsome prize it would have been, but that might explain the mistake with the order of his name.  The family would not be likely to make such a mistake.  Any suggestions?

What county or country are we looking at?  You have posted on the Beginners board so no clues there but there is a Rushden in Northampton

No 1863 birth on free bmd & I can’t see any 1871/1881 entry in England that matches the profile

EDIT

re above link - Edward Campbell Browning - death reg Northampton

That was an 'adult' baptism.  I'm not sure what the lower age would be to be considered an adult at baptism.

This is Wm E Bick with parents, John, Gardener, mother, Sarah, & 2 siblings in 1871, Westhumble, Surrey.

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VRNK-Q3C

His mother, Sarah, died, 1874, Dorking. May explain why he was sent away to school.

Added. Also possible that he was a servant to the Currie family & that the book was a leaving gift.
