Leading Aircraftman William Timothy Cavanagh
« on: Friday 27 October 23 18:04 BST (UK) »
Hello all ! I am new here and I live in the Netherlands. I am researching the crash of an RAF bomber "Bristol Blenheim LS-P L8847" which crashed near my village on May 12, 1940. Killing all 3 crew. One of them was LAC William T. Cavanagh, aged 22. Son of Timothy and Annie Cavanagh. At that time he was living in Dublin, King Street North, Inns Quay. Probably at number 160. I am looking for a photo and maybe even some living relatives. There will be a kind of memorial service next year September 16 because of our 80 year Liberation. We do want to reveal a monument to honor the 3 fallen crew members. It would be heartwarming to welcome relatives too, if possible. I do have info about the other 2 but not William. So any bit of help from you is really appreciated. Thanks in advance !!

Age-wise, William Timothy Grace fits the bill, he was born on 14 November 1917 to Annie Grace (no father mentioned) at 29 Malone Place in Belfast, which was called the 'Midnight Mission' a.k.a. Malone Place Rescue and Maternity Home:

About 18 months later on 6 May 1919, an Annie Grace married a Timothy Cavanagh in St. George's Church of Ireland, Dublin,  Annie provided 2 addresses, a Dublin one and 29 Malone Place in Belfast:

Albeit Timothy may not have been the bio father, I suspect that this may be the couple who were parents to William Timothy as he grew up and whom you need to track forward.

The 'irishgenealogy' website shows a Marbaret (typo?) Kavanagh born in 1920 in Dublin with a mother's birth name of Grace, unfortunately the image isn't available, the 'familysearch' website shows it as Marbaret M Kavanagh, registered Dublin North Apr-Jun 20.  Just a maybe.

Thank you ! In another earlier post Cavanagh was indeed written with a K. I am getting confused in a way. Annie was his mom. Timothy probably not his biological dad. It's slowly unraveling. THey did live in Dublin iindeed. Do not know about Belfast but it is a possibility for sure.

The name Pierce Grace (Annie's father as stated in the 1919 marriage registration) is quite location specific, with most coverage being focused on County Kilkenny.  For example, try searching for it in the 1901 and 1911 Ireland censuses to see what I mean.  I therefore suspect that Annie may have been a Kilkenny native, I can see a possibility for her in the censuses and a possible birth for her in 1893 to parents Pierce Grace and Mary Farrell, but it's just a guess, I have nothing else to corroborate that at this point:

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1893/02301/1863129.pdf

If I'm right (and this is sheer nosiness on my part), I can't help but wonder why/how a Kilkenny girl ended up having a son in the Belfast Midnight Mission (her stated address at that time was Co. Down, but that may simply have meant what is now East Belfast) and then marrying Timothy Cavanagh in Dublin, the distances involved are a bit more that I would usually expect.  But the birth and marriage records are what they are and they seem to fit the age and stated parents of Leading Aircraftman William Timothy Cavanagh.
