LAC (Leading Aircraftman) William Timothy Cavanagh
« on: Thursday 02 November 23 13:29 GMT (UK) »
Hello ! I am looking for a photo of this hero. William Cavanagh was a radio operator/gunner.He was killed in a crash on May 12, 1940 near Maastricht, the Netherlands, along with Flying Officer Pilot Thomas George Bassett from New Zealand and Observer/Gunner Sergeant Neville Craig Middlemass from Sheffield. Their Bristol Blenheim LS-P L8847 was shot down by, probably a Messerschmitt Bf109 and/or FLAK while bombing bridges near Maastricht to stop the Germans advancing into Belgium. Now we want to erect a monument for these heroes close to the crash site (which is still visible). More/other info about Cavanagh (from Dublin) is also very welcome !! Thanks in advance !!
