Help with date and possible location
« on: Tuesday 07 November 23 18:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am very new to this site.  I have this family photo. I think it dates to WW1 but cannot be sure. Is anybody able to date the photo? Also, does anybody have an idea of the regiment the male in the photo is in and also why the nurses and babies in the image seem to posing in the backyard of a terrace house!

Many thanks,

Yashica

Someone has saved this image on Pinterest, claiming that it's a propaganda postcard from WW1.

Their version of the image has the following written on the bottom.

"Bringing up the reinforcements. Marie Celeste, London Hospital"

They don't offer any sources to back up their claim.

However Barts Health Archives also have this image, with a similar claim, saying it was the Royal London Hospital.

One might assume the Officer is RAMC.
Possibly pre war he worked at the Hospital & on this ward.
I don't see this as a propaganda photo more likely he's returned
& this has been taken by a local paper as a human interest story.
It was common for copies to be sold to the public.
Maybe one of your ancestors was born there &/or one of the babies
in the photo.
Do you have any ancestors direct or otherwise born c. WW1 in the
Whitechapel area?
