Hi, I have just found some newspapers that talk about the William Kennaird that ended up in the boys reformatory on the census. I can't access the newspapers and so I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if there's any address or anything on it and what it's about. There are a few: Liverpool Echo, Newry Telegraph, Greenwich and Deptford Observer and Croydon Chronicle etc. (all 1889)

Thank you, that is definitely the correct William then! Must have been a mistake on the census.

1891 Census for 6, Dacre Street Lee, Lewisham, London and Kent.
Francis Elizabeth Kennard ,Widow.  Age 50-1841,Laundress .Born Lee.
Mary A T Kennard,Daughter.Single.  Age 18- 1873,Laundress Assistant.Born Lee.
Henry F Kennard,Son.Single.  Age 12-1879.  Born Lee.

Orriginal Enumerator Issue shows Name as Kennaird, Transcription error on FindMyPast.

By 1901 Mary has become a "Sister of Mercy" at Hammersmith.

At the Reformatory in1891 as William apparently had an Uncle in Scotland he probably said he was from there to divert shame from is Mum.

Did it say the name of his uncle that lived in Scotland? I can't seem to work out which uncle that was

Presumably the :- Uncle William S. Kennard living at 14 Pie Row, London Road, Glasgow. Cited by Jebber on 1st December.

Hmm, I don't have a brother of his Dad's called William S Kennaird and can't find one either. I thought it could be his brother Stephen Kennaird, but he seems to be living in England all his life, and his middle name was James not William.

Can anyone see a William S Kennaird (may be under Kennard) son of Stephen Kennard and Sarah Osborne? Starting to think I've got the wrong parents of John Matthew Kennaird (William's Dad)...
