Lovely, thanks. Yes, I'd seen that and wondered the same thing. I think I need to get that probably birth certificate for Edith and find the mother's name and then take it from there. Hopefully it will be Price and I'll be on the right road. Thanks so much!

That is a good idea it will also confirm her date of birth and hopefully her mother's first name will be Susannah - let us know how you get on  :)

Hi Pebble351- just to keep on the back burner IF James Sullivan parents are John & Honora

Probably marriage entry

Mar 1891  Bedwelty    11a   164
John    Thomas
Jones    Sarah Ann
McCarthy Honorah
Sullivan John

GRO indexes has following births Merthyr Tydfil all have mmn MISKILL

James SULLIVAN  Sept 1892 - you can purchase a digital image cost £2.50 from GRO indexes
Denis MCCARTHY Mar 1888
Mary.      “           Dec 1885
Daniel     “           Sept 1883
Margaret  “          Jun  1881

These names seem to be a match for some of the children born Pontlottyn from the 1901 census above living 8 Hill Road

1911 census John McCarthy and some of his siblings are living at 8 Hill Road,
his brother James surname McCarthy not Sullivan born c1893 Pontlottyn occ coal miner hewer

1921 census
using advance search
surname SULLIVAN
address 8 Hill Road
Parish Gelligaer

Free index shows these people together you would need a sub to look at the original
James 1892 Pontlottyn
James 1918 -
Norah 1916  -
Susan 1894 Monmouthshire

Brilliant. I'll keep a note of all of that. I do wish my ancestors had unique names! I mean, Sullivan in Pontlottyn! Almost as hard to track down as Jones. Thanks so much for the pointers. On her 1953 marriage certificate Edith gives her father's occupation as coal miner. I'll get access to the 1939 census with a 14-day free trial, but I think someone here mentioned that that James Sullivan wasn't a coal miner on that census. Anyway, it may all come clear...

Blimey, that is astonishing! Amazing stuff! Thank you so much. Now I just have to make the connection by getting her birth cert and finding her mother's name. This is brilliant! Thank you so much.
