1908 Wisbech wedding. Help with possible photographer names.
« on: Friday 22 December 23 21:57 GMT (UK) »
Just been revisiting some old notes and realised that I have a photograph of my Grandparents in wedding attire.

They married at St Peters Church in Wisbech in 1908. I have a copy of their wedding certificate together with all the records I need regarding Census, BMD`s etc.

Unfortunately the marriage photo has been cut ( in the long distant past ) with a pair of scissors so it only shows the bride and groom who are seated facing each other.

Appreciate this is a long shot but does anyone have access to local directories who might be able to carry out a Look Up for me please. I would be interested to learn the names of any photographers listed within the Wisbech area circa 1908.

I have previously checked the BNA but can find no reference to the wedding.

Many thanks in advance for all offers of help and assistance.

Steve  ;)

Turn up the 1911 census & show Cambridgeshire for "lived in"
Under occupation show photographer

59 entries of which a few live in Wisbech
Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk
Carlin (Ireland & Liverpool) Doughty & Wright (Liverpool) Dick & Park (Scotland & Liverpool)

Many thanks Carole for your reply but unfortunately I do not possess any current subscription to Anc***** or F M P.

I do however still have an account with F M P, which I logged into after receiving your reply and got 58 results for Cambridgeshire of which 3 are based in Wisbech ( Thomas Fletcher, Roy Hall and Charles Rutter ). I will have to wait until after Christmas to pop to the local library to gain access to further details.

Just curious but is there any way of finding out whether there were any photography businesses based in Wisbech for the same era?

Thanks again Steve

Being realistic - if you don’t have any info about the photographer (ie) the name from any stamp on the photo etc - how are you going to determine the correct one?

What are you hoping to achieve?

Rutter lived at 40 Elm Rd Wisbech
Fletcher was a boarder at 1 Blackfriars Rd Wisbech
Roy Hall lived in Upwell - not Wisbech

Thank you for your reply and for the details you enclose. Very much appreciated.

I was hoping that one of the photographers might have a business that still exists ( perhaps passed down from father to son for example ) in which case I was hoping I could make contact to see if they have kept any records from that era. Long shot I know as previously stated but worth investigating I thought  :-\

Thank you very much arthurk for your reply and the link  ;)

I hadn`t given the Fenland Museum a thought. I did visit there several times during my early research ( recall speaking to and being advised by Brian Payne on a couple of occasions ), so it may be worth another visit.
