CUMMINGS FAMILY, John and wife Catherine both born around 1811

New to this looking for information on my ancestors from Tipperary Ireland so far i have raced back to John Cummings born around 1811 and wife Catharine <maiden name unknown> born around 1812 they had a son Cornelius May7th 1850or 1856<some record prints blurred> John and Catharine had 4 other sons John, Daniel, Michael, and Maurice.
Few questions of course is information on earlier generations names etc, Like my Great great grandmother Catharine's parents names.
Also any information on when Cummings became Cummings and not other variation and if there is a direct history of Migration from Scotland
