I have five generations of Andersons going back to the mid 16th Centruy who were blacksmiths laterly at the Castle of Auchy, in Monquitter.
My 2X great grandfather James Dick Anderson moved to Edinburgh in his old age....
My great Aunt Hellen Anderson (nee Hay) moved newbattle as a companion to Margaret Craig...
My great mother Espeth Anderson married James Duncan (Blacksmith) moved to Glasgow in 1875...
My grandfather died of TB in 1883 at Hellen's house in Newbattle...My grandmother Gemima Hellen Hay Duncan (nee Glass) was born 5 months after her father died in January 1884
Her brother William Anderson (blacksmith) came as well...
Does anyone know of the Andersons in Monquitter?

MONQUHITTER - CHILD BURNED. - On Thursday last, a
girl about three years old, Jane, daughter of James Ander-
son, blacksmith, Hill of Greeness, while left alone in the
house by her mother for a short time, went too near the
fire, and her clothes became ignited. She ran screaming out
of the house, and the gale of wind blowing at the time
served to hasten her destruction. Her mother heard her
cries, and came to her assistance immediately, but before
the flames were put out the poor child was fearfully burnt.
She died the following day.
