« on: Friday 02 February 24 11:57 GMT (UK) »
Are there any government sources to follow up to find a death certificate?
I only have name, DOB and Place of birth Saxony.
Thanks for any suggestions.

If it is recent you will need to know the place and apply to the registry. I think you may also have to be a close relative.

Germany has no central repository for civil records. Death certificates can be obtained from the local civil registration office (Standesamt) at the place were the person died.

Fiddlerslass, thank you.
DOB 1919 but I have no idea when the person may have died, plus he is a distant cousin.
I suspect, if living a 'normal life' for the time he lived in, he might have died sometime 1985 to say 1995. it's my guess he might have died in Schleswig- Holstein or maybe Saxony, but just a guess based on where he was born and later worked prior to WW2.

That's a wide area to cover, if you mean Saxony in the south east as opposed to Lower Saxony or Saxony - Anhalt. I've got ancestry from Saxony( Sachsen)and there's not much online yet.

Have you tried directories or telephone books? Did he have a common or more unusual surname or occupation? Have you had a look for a gravestone on the usual sites eg billiongraves or anything on Gedbas? You can search the entire database here (meta search)

I recently had an aunt died in Germany, and the funeral director sent me a copy of a death certificate but it just had date and place of death, nothing about parents or cause of death. I do not know if this was just some sort of short form certificate though.

Fidlerslass
I have tried numerous sites to no avail so far, including some of those you suggest. Will try the others.
The person I am researching was born in Meerane, near Crimitschau. I have contacted local town offices and the state offices to no avail, other than getting confirmatioh of his mother's death in Meerane.
Thanks your suggestions
Anton
