Hi there!
I’ve just started tracing my family tree and have found Breckons from Whitby, so thought I’d contact you.
From the dates given, Hannah was born around 1831, and seems to be the same one that appears on the 1841 census with parents Thomas (born c.1790) and Hannah senior (born c.1811). If I’ve gotten this correct, my GGG Grandmother Elizabeth Jane Breckon (born in Whitby c.1827) is her older sister or half sister.
I have been trying to find out more about the family, in particular, who Elizabeth’s mother was, and because there’s only a few years between their births, they could well have the same mother. Things are complicated by the fact that her father, Thomas Breckon, the local butcher and Inn Keeper, was widowed twice and married 3 times, fathering a total of 26 children. (I know all this from a historian’s research article, which although focussing on her husband, Matthew Walker - related to the Walker family in Whitby who apprenticed Captain Cook, gave some background on the Breckon family).
Did you manage to find that death notice and do you have her death certificate yet? I do know that Elizabeth immigrated to Australia some time in the 1850’s and ended up in Queensland. I’d love to hear from anyone who has connections to this branch of the family and will be happy to share any information I have.
Cheers,
Nikki.
