Coroners Report 1907 Grace Emily Lee
« on: Sunday 11 February 24 08:45 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I am hoping someone may be able to help me find information on an inquest held in Nottingham on 24th Jan 1907 and 7 Feb 1907. for two children.

The Lee family suffered a double tragedy when two of their children died. Robert Lee b 23 Nov 1905  was buried 26 Jan 1907 at Averham   near Newark Nottinghamshire.
On his sisters death cert  it says Grace Emily Lee age 14 months died 24 Jan 1907 due to Ptomaine poisoning ( Food poisoning) . She was buried on the same day as her brother ( i don't have his death cert but its highly likely it is the same cause) .
Any information about this tragedy would be appreciated.

Thank You .

Thank you so much for finding the article. Surprised it was in a Sheffield paper  not local. So sad . So they think i the food poisoning may have been caused by  a joint of beef sold by a butcher  but as the article said he had no other complaints . May have been how the food was stored . But so tragic for this family . Thank you again

You are welcome. I always find good old Mr Google is the place to start. Very sad, no fridges then. One of my lot died from a mince pie. Never discovered if that was a savoury or a sweet one!
