Post war picture enquiry
« on: Sunday 11 February 24 14:05 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to research a postcard sized photograph.

The back of the picture is printed on postcard  format.
The date Dec. 23rd 1953 and  ref 503/37is noted in pencil above a frank stamp
FOTO-LEUKERT
   Celle Han.
Zollerstrasse 37 — Ruf 3380
Postacheckk : Hannover 60115

Is there any way that  I could find out more about the photographer or
if any other pictures were taken in the same sitting ?

Other than the fact the person in the photographs might have been serving in Germany (BAOR or RAF Germany) at the time, I don't think the Armed Forces forum is going to be much help. Perhaps better to ask a moderator to put this in the Europe forum or  the Old Photos Forum.

Thanks for the reply.
The reason I put this post here is ne cause the picture that I am trying to find more information on was of my mother and I as an infant when she went to visit her brother who was stationed at or near Celle until about 1960. He was an RSM. And left after more than 20 service. I have more details on him. I will post them here later when I have checked them.
Meanwhile I am concentrating on the Civilian photographer.
Is seems that the numbers 503/37 must have meant something to someone.
They are in a different handwriting to the date which I recognise as being my mother’s.
Has anybody any ideas as to what they could mean?
Perhaps there is a more suitable place to post this enquiry ?

The 1953 Hannover Address Book has been scanned in here:
https://wiki.genealogy.net/Hannover/Adressbuch_1953

Though it appears you'll need to understand some German to read it and the site.
The site also appears to have the Address books for 1960 and 1975.
https://wiki.genealogy.net/index.php?title=Kategorie:Online-Adressbuch&pagefrom=Hannover%2FAdressbuch+1869#mw-pages

Hopefully the 1953 book may provide a little more information about the photographer and the latter books may indicate if they were still in business at a later date. Not much, but hopefully a start.

The numbers may be the order numbers..from a sheet of photographs taken at a photographers you were given a sheet and had to order the 'good' photos by the number that was placed on the sheet.

Possibly the first number was the run number used by the photographer to distinguish this session from say 'Herr & Frau Schwarz' who had their photos taken next and were numbered 504.

37 may be the number on the sheet.

Often street photographers stopped people on the street, took their photos and then handed out a card with the day's number on it say 503.  You went into the photgrapher's studio and looked at the sheet numbered 503 and ordered from that.

Unless the studio is still in existence you might not be able to find other photographs in the series unless they have been archived somewhere.  Here in NZ I managed, once, to find a photgraph from an order number on the back by searching in a museum's holdings where the records/negatives of very early photographs had been lodged

Post the Postkarte so we can have a look

Which side ?
I’ll try both. I haven’t mastered posting pics on this site.
I think I tried a Google link before and the Rootschat software would not accept it.
Is there a link to instructions ?
I have another photograph that I am sure was professionally taken and with view to publishing in the Windsor Sough district papers in 1946. I have searched for in manually but understand that there is software somewhere that can detect unique images Has anybody heard of such a thing?
