Lodge Family Dorset
« on: Tuesday 13 February 24 22:46 GMT (UK) »
I am researching the Lodge family tree from Dorset, I have gone back to James Lodge and his wife Susannah Stickley, they had 9 children all of which I can trace except Ann born 1843, she appears in the 1851 and 1861 census but then I can't find anything and there is no birth record either, her sister Elizabeth born 1849 appears in the 1861 census only and nowhere else, any ideas why I can't trace them or where I can go next?

How do you read the GRO record, because it mentions a volume and page number, can this only be viewed in the records office?

Do you mean 1851 census? She's with the family in East Orchard

In 1861 she appears to be a servant in Bighton, Hampshire. Age given as 14. Place of birth is East Orchard, so very likely to be her

Many thanks Neale, I got the death certificate for Ann Lodge and she is the relative I was looking for, still not 100% on Elizabeth, her death certificate doesn't give her fathers name like it does on Ann's. I can't find Elizabeths birth record either.

A death certificate would not normally give the father's name for an adult who died. You may have been lucky with Ann - did she die at home? Who was the informant?
Elizabeth may not have been home when she died. WHat is the address of her death, and who was the informant?
