Joseph Rawlinson bapt Mar 1808 Batley - COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 14 February 24 12:32 GMT (UK) »
I am seeking the baptism of a Joseph Rawden b.c. 1807 Batley according to census data.  Have had no luck over a number of years.

However I have noticed that several trees on Ancestry have taken the Batley baptism of a Joseph Rawlinson on 6 Mar 1808 (birth 6 Feb 1808) as the appropriate baptism and have continued to go further back from here.

I cannot find an image of this baptism online in order to decide for myself so wondered if anybody had access to this image to determine whether indeed it states Rawlinson or something else.

I note that there is a baptism of a Samuel Rawden a bit later in 1812 in the register.

Thanks, Pheno

The image is on Ancestry - but Joseph has been transcribed as John.

Joseph, son of William Rawlinson, Labourer, son of William by Elis'th his wife, daughter of John Fell.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Did he marry more than once?  Spouse is Martha in 1841 & Sarah in 1851.  Marriage 1845 to Sarah Dean on freebmd - marriage cert will show fathers name

1851 shows 1809 Batley. 1861 = 1808 Batley

Hi BumbleB - can you direct me to the Ancestry Image please - I just cannot find whichever way I search.

Thanks, Pheno

I typed in these 3 pieces of information in the search boxes

John Rawlinson
born 1807
Batley Yorkshire

and his baptism is the first result that comes up

actual image has it under March 13 but born Feb 6
clearly written as Rawlinson

I did this route:

Home page - right hand side of screen under More Collections =
Births, Marriage, Deaths including Parish
UK Parish B M and B Records
Scroll down to - West Yorkshire, C of E, B, M and B 1512-1812
Select parish = Batley All Saints via "Browse this Collection"
Scroll through to 1808
Entry is on page 2 of 24

Hope this helps

Thanks Millipede.  I presume you mean you typed Joseph Rawlinson?

Yes when I do that I get taken to the record as the first entry in the list but there is no option to view an image (funnily enough if I type John Rawlinson I do get an image option but not the right person).

Why can't I see an image I wonder?

Supplementary query, if this is the right baptism is the transition from Rawlinson to Rawden possible/likely/acceptable do you think?
