Where are William Henry Brittain Snr and William Henry Brittain Jnr?
« on: Monday 26 February 24 13:40 GMT (UK) »
WHB father and WHB son were born in 1879 and 1900 in Wolverhampton.

I have found the father in 1881, 1891, and 1901 but cannot locate him in 1911, although I have found his wife, Mary Ann and 3 of their children living at 4  Court, Stafford Road, Wolverhampton. She is recorded as a housekeeper. WHB Snr died in 1920.

I can find WHB jnr in 1901 but not in 1911 or 1921 although he surfaces again in the 1939 Register in Wolverhampton.

Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Possible sighting of WHB Jnr in 1949?

21 May 1949: Evening Despatch

Quote
GAOLED FOR HITTING HIS LANDLADY
William Henry Brittain, aged 49, lodging at 27, Dryden-road, Wolverhampton, was sentenced to two months' imprisonment at Wolverhampton today for assaulting his landlady Mrs. Agnes May Semper.

Mrs. Semper, whose left eye was discoloured, said that for no apparent reason Brittain attacked her, striking her on the forehead and causing a wound in which stitches had to be inserted. He also struck her in the body.

Denying the charge Brittain said the woman. who attacked him with a stout bottle, received her injuries when she fell down.

STOLE HANDBAG, SENT TO GAOL
A 51-year-old labourer who admitted stealing a woman's handbag containing £8 14s. during an auction sale was sent to prison for nine months at Wolverhampton Quarter Sessions today.

He was William Henry Brittain, of no fixed address, father of eight children. In a statement he said he stole the bag because he was "down and out."

Added: In 1939 there are eight children listed, so this must be him.

Hello Alan,

Thank you for the two newspaper articles, I have seen the first one but not the second. Seems jnr was somewhat of a rogue.

I'm just at a loss as to where both WHB's were in 1911 and junior in 1921.

There is a newspaper mention of WHB Jnr’s son WHB too.

Jane Harpin seems to be with her family and single in the 1921 census.

I only see 7 births registered with name Brittain mmn Harpin.

There is a 1911 Electoral Register entry for William Henry Brittain at 21 Ruiton Street, Wolverhampton.

In the 1911 census at 21 Ruiton Street is a William Britton, 43, bricklayer labourer, born Stafford, Segley. His wife is Sophia.

Is this him?
