WOW!!!!........................Thanks for the response, fantastic!!
Firstly, working backwards, Ladyhawk..................."If this is his 1883 death in Manhattan New York age 59, parents named as Duncan MacArthur & Sarah BENNING"
I'm not sure the date or the place of death is correct but I'm open to persuasion.
The family were based in the Bronx in the 1870 and 1880 census, the death of a daughter still has the family in the Bronx in 1899, and of Jane in 1903.
I think its a stretch him dying in Manhattan and I'm trying to get hold of his death certificate but with no luck yet.
This may or may not call in to question his parents noted in the FamilySearch link.
Its not a great leap though to assume him in Argyle Street is the same one noted in the USA census.
What does it mean "noted born out of the county"??
I'm assuming Kilfinichen and Kilvickeon, Argyll, Scotland where he was born is no where near Glasgow?
Its not a great leap either to assume John and Malcolm are his brothers but where are the parents?
Millipede....................looking at the passenger list its definitely a 3 not an 8 and Its a fair assumption that the Sarah Sands set sail from Liverpool on August 24th 1849.
"This information conflicts but there is a family tree with his birth 1826 England and death 1894.
The wife is correct Jane Perry. Marriage in 1852.
If correct the 1870 and 1880 census have born England"
And therein lies the problem.
Are we saying they married In England in 1852, that throws a curve ball on the whole scenario, it does answer a question I've been asking myself, the only Jane Perry I can find is born in 1836 in Walsall, Staffordshire and appearing in the 1850 census as an 18 year old but born in 1836 means she would be 16 when married and even younger when she travelled!
She's causing me issues too as her father is noted as coming from Devizes in Wiltshire.
Given I cant find Duncan and Jane as a couple travelling to the USA, is it safe to assume they travelled separately and married in the USA?
The mystery deepens eh!
