Francis Elven census look up please
« on: Wednesday 20 March 24 10:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone
I'm trying to find Francis Elven on 1841 census
Francis was born 1757 Hempnall Norfolk. He married on 10 October 1785 to Susannah Hunt at Bedlngham Norfolk.   They had children from 1785 to 1805 all born Bedingham. Susannah died in 1823  Bedingham.
Today I have a death certificate for  Francis Elvin 9 April 1845 Norwich.
I'm trying to find him on 1841 census
Surname has many variations
Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

What was the address on the death certificate?

He was buried Bedingham on the 13th April 1845.

There are letters of administration for his estate at the Norfolk Record Office.

Just looked right through Bedingham 1841 and he's not there. Did he go to live with any of his children when he was older?

Hi
I can't find him with any of his children . I think he lived in Norwich as the death cert suggests. His age at death was 93yrs . Looks like he had smallpox!

Is there a street address for Francis indicated on the certificate? Also, what is the name and address of the informant?

From March to April 1845 there were 90+ smallpox deaths in Norwich.

Sarah Cooper who reported his death is probably his daughter.

Sarah bap 1797 married Jonathan Cooper 9 November 1817 at Bedingham Norfolk.
Witness Samuel Elvin (brother) and Elizabeth Elvin (not sure who she is)

Sarah Cooper, the informant on the death cert, was a nurse to invalids. She's mentioned in the newspaper report below. Her address matches the one in the newspaper.

The Norfolk Chronicle and Norwich Gazette.
03 February 1844

"Samuel Harrison, of Crook's Place, appeared to a summons for having assaulted Sarah Cooper, of the same locality. The complainant stated she was a nurse to invalids and had four patients in her house..."
