Where can i find my Grandfather's Army (Hussar's) Service Records

Hi All,

My Grandfather Francis Edwards (1907-1978) was in the Hussar's and served in India, but Ancestry doesn't seem to find any Military records for him. He was born North Shields, County Durham, but he lived in Kent from the age of 3 for the rest of his life, if that helps.

Is there anywhere I can look other than Ancestry to find his army service record?

Service records after 1920 were with the MoD but are in the process of being transferred to the national archives . They are not yet digitised. There are topics on rootschat about the transfer and where to apply for records

Thankyou, I have found the government website for ordering the service records. Interestingly the gov website says the service is free and they will send a digital copy where possible, but the pinned thread says the service £30. Perhaps that has changed.

Either way i have provided all of his personal details DOB, place of birth etc, so lets hope they can find it

I hope that they locate it for you and that you get it quickly.

Just for information.
I requested a record in August 2023.
Payment of £24.35 was requested and paid in September/October 2023.
I received the record by email last week.
