baptism and order of birth

I have been trying to sort out relationships and looking at baptisms I notice that some children are numbered as being the nth child of John Doe and Mary Smith.This has been helpful but there are gaps
that is child no 5 but I can only find 2 other baptisms. My question is would stillbirths and children who died before baptism be included or is it just that other baptisms are not available for one reason or another

Most likely that children were not baptised or baptism records have been lost .
Have you tried searching with various spellings for the surnames?

Thank you for your reply. The children I am looking at are the offspring of William Dunn and Margaret Hamilton, they were married 1n 1779.
1 Catherine 1780 Barony
2 Margaret 1781 Barony
 Agnes 1784 Glasgow
5 Jean 1786 Barony

Hi, I don’t see any other child that you might have missed.
It looks as if there could have been a child between Margaret and Agnes.
