dinnen1800 - you really need to locate Andrew in the 1851 census. Doing so will help confirm his birthplace, so you can focus your search on any existing birth/baptism record.

We have tried to locate him in Portsea where he was living at the time on the other thread without success

I would keep trying in Ireland, you never know  :)

I have 2 brass founders married into my extended family living in London around that time, they were both born Scotland but I was lucky they were around for later census.

Why Ireland? Unless I missed something reading through the 3 pages on previous thread Scotland not Ireland was mentioned as a possibility?

Unfortunately, civil registration in Ireland didn't start until 1864/1845 and most church records pre-1800 don't survive. To check for church records, not all that survive are online, you'll need to have an idea of both religious denomination and location (parish/city if not actual townland/street).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

When Andrew died in 1853 wife Isabella's address was 3, Lower Arundel Street, Landport, Portsea.

Try searching for Andrew and Isabella in other places. They may have briefly traveled somewhere else when the 1851 census was taken.
