Births in Enniskillen in 1918
« on: Wednesday 03 April 24 18:05 BST (UK) »
Hello.  I have someone who was born on 16 May 1918 in Enniskillen Workhouse.  I have a record of her birth but wonder if I am able to apply for a Certificate to show for Legal purposes.  The lady is deceased and her name was Rachel McNamee.  She was born illegitimate.   I am also trying to find out about her sister who was born in 1915 also illegitimate and the mother.  Both were named Agnes.  I will have to go back and check roughly how old the mother was.  Apparently the mother was RC.

Relevant information regarding ordering a certificate can be found here:
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/civil-records/help/i-want-to-get-a-copy-of-a-certificate-what-do-i-do

The website states that a "certificate is a certified copy of an entry in the register is used for legal and administrative purposes.  A certificate costs €20."

You have to fill out the form provided and email it to the address listed. I ordered a copy of an entry for research purposes (€5) and it took a while to receive it but the process worked fine.

Alternatively, you can order via GRONI at a cost of £15:

https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/ordering-life-event-certificates

The GRONI index being:

U/1918/114/1013/30/225   Rachel   McNamee   16th May 1918   Female      Enniskillen(pre-1973 Q4)

The transcript from IrishGenealogy shows her mother as Agnes McNamee:

Thank you.  Better still at £15.  Do you think that I might be able to find Rachel's sister Agnes' birth.  I don't have an exact date of birth for her but on a record I have from Enniskillen Workhouse when Rachel was born it gives Agnes' age as 3.  Mother also Agnes McNamee gives her age as 24.  No other info available I'm afraid.

Regards,

Kathryn

A birth record for an Agnes c1915, in Enniskillen or other parts of Ireland, is not immediately obvious at moment (including under variant names).

Thank you Scotmum.  I've just re visited the Record I have from the Union Hospital and the area that Agnes Snr gave that she was from prior to being in the UH was Clogher.

Agnes Snr was 24 in 1918 and on one page it states that she was a Servant and when Rachel was born no employment is recorded.

Thank you again for your time and help.

Regards,

Kathryn

This McNamee family in Clogher at 1901 includes 4 children, but no Agnes:

https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tyrone/Clogher/Clogher/1726188/

The 1911 census records 8 children born, 6 living to this family.....but again, no Agnes in the house at time:

https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Tyrone/Cloghan/Clogher_Town/855988/

Obviously, this family may have no links whatsover to the Agnes in the workhouse, but always worth checking further.
