Family mystery
« on: Wednesday 03 April 24 21:16 BST (UK) »
Hello all, in need of help finding out what happens to some members of my grandfather's family

James jamieson marries Annie Mcdonald in 1897 in Lochwinnoch Scotland.
They have 6 children Agnes 1897, Elizabeth 1899, Hugh 1901, John 1904, Mary 1908 and Maggie 1910.

John dies in 1907
Maggie dies in 1933
Hugh marries Elizabeth kerr Semple in Canada 1937
Elizabeth marries Richard Kenneth Brake Canada 1935
Agnes stays in Scotland.

Annie is gone a year after maggies birth and not on the 1911 censuses where the rest of the family are living with James' mother Elizabeth.
Shes still not on the census in 1921 where family are living on factory street, Lochwinnoch.

The family story is that Annie runs off to Canada but I can't find any proof of that but possible as two children move out there

I cant find Hugh in Canada/Scotland after his wife dies in 1940

What happens to Annie and Hugh

Please help

There is a Hugh Jamieson, age 30, Farm Labourer, on the 1931 Census in canada

Got to the Censuses -- Library and Archives Canada site. Select the "new Census Search" near the top of the page, it allows you to search all 17 censuses at the same time! Play around

https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/Pages/census.aspx

There are 2 Elizabeth Jamiesons' on the 1931 Census, but both are married.

From a tree on Ancestry, Elizabeth arrived in Quebec Canada in June 1923

There are about 25 Annie Jamiesons shown on the censuses, but her birth year is needed.

Have fun searching!!!

When Elizabeth arrives in Canada in 1923, she indicates that her passage was paid for by her mother and is destined to her uncle J.W. Stewart in Toronto.

Hi,

1923 Toronto Directory has John W Stewart at 17 Hanley Ave (it is in West Toronto - under the suburb of Runnymede, so at the front of the Directory, not with the City of Toronto listings)

We may have to disregard this passenger record -- the matching outbound record from Scotland indicates she is travelling with her mother Catherine and a younger child Annie.  Back to the drawing board.
