William John Gledhill LORD
« on: Wednesday 03 April 24 22:04 BST (UK) »
Hello, I’m trying to find out what happened to my 1st cousin who was born in Scotland and emigrated to Melbourne. He was born 26/5/34 in Leith, Edinburgh and parents applied to remain in Australia  after the war in 1946 (see https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/11977252?token=7b22746f6b656e223a2250734c586755516b624873476c68733835486d4a6b79792f732f4b6b47724f5447576170784b5a34474f593d222c22746f6b656e5f76657273696f6e223a225632227d).

1. I haven’t found a death certificate which could be in VIC (his last known address in 1988 was Port Melbourne)

2. He mentioned children in a letter from 1988 but no names and I’d like to get in contact with them.

Thanks to any Australia genealogy experts out there!

It is quite possible that he is still living as would be his children. RootsChat has a strict no living person policy.

Privacy laws in Australia are also quite strict and deaths in Victoria are not available until 30 years after death and births until after 100 years.

If you look at the Victorian BDM however, you can see a death for a child Janet Clare LORD in 1972 aged 6 months, this gives parents' names.

The child's newspaper death notice published in "The Age" does not contain any particulars of help to you, Mr Saunders.
So I feel no need to publish it here.

Thank you everyone. I did see the newspaper article from 1977 about the sad loss of a child. The letter I have dated 1988 mentioned other children so making an assumption there are more, possibly alive today which as I understand makes them hard to trace in Australia. I’ll try the VIC bdms as it would seem the family were living there in 1988. Thank you!

I know that his wife is still living also their children and families.

If you send me a PM I will forward the information I have and it might help you make contact with them.
