GEORGE EDWARD PAYTON WW1 1917
« on: Thursday 04 April 24 15:53 BST (UK) »
GEORGE EDWARD PAYTON , aged 38, died on 9 June 1917 after having served with the Royal Garrison Artillery. His address at that time was 18 Handsworth Road, West Green where he lived with his wife Eleanor and son Leonard George. George was born in Stepney in 1879, Eleanor was born in Hoxton and Leonard in Hackney (1906).
In 1911 the family were at Handsworth Road; George was a sorter with London Postal Service. After George's death his wife and child appear to have moved to 331 Wightman Road, Hornsey.
George Edward Payton is one of the "forgotten soldiers" who died as a result of war service but was never commemorated as such. I am hoping to have his burial place designated as a War Grave.
Does anyone know where he is buried??  Any suggestions welcome.

You have again implied his Passing was a Result of his War Service
There no doubt he was still in Service at Prees Heath Camp with the 439 Siege Bty Royal Garrison Artillery as Gnr 157185 awaiting to go Overseas when he Died of Pneumonia aged 38
He was probably buried locally in the Whitchurch area unless the Army paid for the transfer of his Body to locally where his Wife Eleanor nee Fiddy and Son lived in 1917 but I would have expected the CWGC to know that and have Burial Records but his passing was Not brought to attention till - 11 May 2009
when he was finally added to Brookwood Memorial
His Death was Registered in December Quarter 1917 Whitchurch Volume 6a page 651

It might be worth exploring Tilstock (Christ Church ) Churchyard apparently a lot of men who died at Prees Camp are buried in Tilstock.  (Tilstock Parish Church)

Whitchurch Library may have the Burial Records for Tilstock Church - probably all the Soldiers are buried in Unmarked Plots
My Granddad in WW2 was a Guard when it was a POW there at Prees Heath Camp before he was Transferred to Olham Glenn Mill POW Camp where he Died in 1943 and awarded a CWGC Headstone back in Liverpool because he was in Service
The Prees Heath Camp site is now a MOD Grain Store
