I am 95% sure that Elin Lloyd shown on the 1861 census is the Elinor Roberts on the 1841 census.

On the 1841 census Gaynor Lloyd is living at Rhyd-y-sarn with daughter Elinor Roberts, her husband/partner(?) Robert Roberts and grandson Richard Roberts. Near neighbour (2 doors away) is Edward Griffiths (Tanner) and wife Gwen.

On the 1851 census Gaynor Lloyd (Isaac) is still at Rhyd-y- sarn, still has neighbour Edward Griffiths (Tanner) and wife Gwen 2 doors away. Now has Robert Roberts (1842) (grandson) living with her.

All the other information does appear to link with this. Why revert to name Lloyd?, I wonder if Ellin and Robert did marry? Revised: have marriage certificate, they did marry, but has Cas has stated Robert Roberts father is named has Robert Lloyd, so can see why to revert!

Hugh Lloyd did not name a father on his marriage certificate. The tree is not mine I shall ask my friend if he wants to send for marriage certificates for the other 2 boys.

On the marriage for Robert Roberts & Ellin(or) it has his father named as Robert Lloyd.

1. He could have been illegitimate, mother a Roberts

2. He could have been following the Welsh patriarchal naming system. Son of Robert - Roberts? I do not know if this was still used around this time or if it applies - am sure others will know.

3. There is a possibility that Hugh was born after Roberts death, so Ellin reverted to Lloyd

There is also this death which matches address Llwyn Teg on baptism of Ellin

Cannot Locate a marriage, or any other baptisms for couple, he was a farmer on baptism. But only looked briefly.

There is a vast age difference if is he is the same Richard Lloyd on baptism of Ellin.  Possibly could have a first family?  Maybe he has a son Richard? Also why was Gaynor of ind means in 1841.

Has your friend done DNA testing?

Don't know if this will help, but there is this census. Could be a brother/half brother to Ellin or Robert?

Thanks Cas, no my friend has not done a DNA, I doubt whether he would, he is interested in the family history but not really to the extent that you or I are. When I see an issue I have to pursue it!!!
