Finding marriage and births of my Donnelly family
« on: Sunday 07 April 24 03:53 BST (UK) »
Hi,
My GGG Grandfather Simon Donnelly was a Pilot on the River Shannon near Kilrush, Ireland in the early 1800's, his wife was Winifred Dempsey or Dimpsay, have not been able to find their marriage as yet.

Their son Timothy Donnelly our GG Grandfather was born in 1805 on Hog Island and he married Eliza Scales (daughter of Joseph Scales, Gardener of Mt. Pleasant and his wife Mary Johnson).   Timothy and his wife Eliza had two children Mary Donnelly b. 1837 Hog Island and Joseph Donnelly b. 1839 on Hog Island.     They migrated to Australia arriving in 1840 to Sydney where they set up family live at Balmain.

Timothy Donnelly was a Sailmaker in Sydney Harbour and his son Joseph Donnelly became a very famous boat builder.   There is much history on his boat building here in Sydney.

If there is anyone who has access to other information on the Donnelly or Scales family in Ireland, to ascertain whether there were other children born to Simon Donnelly and his wife Winifred Dempsey (Dimpsay) their dates of marriage and deaths, would really appreciate that.

Thanking you in advance, best regards Jan

When Timothy and Eliza emigrated they stated they were Protestant, not Catholic.

Everyone, thank you for this information.
Maggsie, your information has now disappeared, wondering why this happened.

I have found by googling, indication from a Census record, that Hog Island only had 8 residents living on the Island in the early 1800's.  As both Mary Donnelly and Joseph Donnelly were born on the island,
I presume this would have been the total Donnelly family living there.

Yes, I'm also wondering why all the text was deleted apart from one full stop!
