Willett Street, Bideford - 1845 - anything special?
« on: Sunday 07 April 24 11:11 BST (UK) »
Hey

Daft question but was there anything special on Willetts Street in the mid 1800's?

Managed to find a death cert for an ancestor who lived on Potters Lane but died in Willetts Street with a random person in attendance (Sarah Bridgeman) on the 30.5.1845.

This relative (Sarah Saunders / Sanders) died of consumption so my initial thought process was that  there might be some kind of medical facility there at the the time .

I don't believe this Sarah Bridgeman person could read / write as there is a X on the death cert and some text suggesting this is her "mark".

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Below, is a Onedrive link to the cert with the information available to me

Thanks

Scott

In 1841 living at Willett Street was a Sarah Bridgman age 40 with presumably her husband Richard, one of their children was also a Sarah.  Her husband died the following year.

In 1851 she is still at Willett Street and a widow occ Laundress.

That certificate you have linked gives the place of death as Potters Lane.  The Willett St address is Sarah Bridgmans

that's some lovely info there so thank you - I think I might have been reading too much into it.  I am also researching my mothers side and that's all Birmingham etc which turns out that there were quite a few "pop up" hospitals in the mid 1800 so I was (wrongly) guessing it was the same everywhere.

Thank you again for this info - I now just need to peace it all together and see where they fit.
