Confused about a Birth Record
« on: Tuesday 09 April 24 08:59 BST (UK) »
Hia folks, I had an Uncle by the name of Alexander Hannah (Alec? Alex? he died before I knew him) died in 1976 in Birmingham (UK) He married in 1963 (not sure if his Widow is still alive so I won't mention her) I have found Birth Records in other parts of the country for an Alexander Hannah around 1940, but can't seem to find anything in and around Birmingham.  He had a Son Alexander John McLaine Hannah (1964-2007) and a daughter (again whom I can't mention)
Ceney/Senay/Seaney (West Bromwich/Sedgley/Tipton/Pennsylvania) My Paternal Family Tree.
Bell/Hannah - Maternal Family Tree
Briggs/Morris - Adopted (or fostered in this case) Maternal Family Tree.

Have you checked births in Scotland? His death registration is not very helpful as to his birth date, just says "about 1920", at a time when exact date of birth should be recorded (if known by the informant)
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

His marriage cert should (hopefully) give his father's name and occupation. There is one with same name and estimated year of birth in Cumberland in 1921, but knowing Alexander's father's name could eliminate that one or keep it on list of possibles

This Alexander could have married a Mary A Carr in 1943.
Could your Alexander have been married previously?

You say you are looking at births around 1940? Have I got the wrong death record?
this is what I found
Deaths Jan - Mar 1976
HANNAH    Alexander    About1920    BIRMINGHAM    vol 32   page 294
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

The Cumberland Alexander is not yours, he died in Whitehaven district in 1999, his dob on death record matches with that in 1939. So I think Scotland most likely.

If he was born about 1920 and married in Birmingham in 1963, I wouldn't rule out a previous marriage

McLaine as one of the son's forenames could be significant. Alexanders jnr's mother isn't a McLaine and neither are either of her parents.

There's a 1963 marriage for an Alexander Hannah in B'ham.
Alexander HANNAH    BIRMINGHAM    9C   710.
They appear in the 1965 ER's in Rookery Rd. B'ham.
Previous sightings has an Alexander Hannah living on the Stratford Rd. in 1950 in lodgings
& in 1930 again on the Stratford Rd. with a Mary Hannah.
Re the last sighting:
To appear on the ER's he would have to be over 21 so born 1909 at the latest.
