Old Farm, Sandhurst
« on: Wednesday 10 April 24 16:04 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know where Old Farm, Sandhurst was/is?  I am visiting Sandhurst in a couple of weeks and would like to try to find this place as it was where my GG Grandfather lived in 1871.

There is an "Old Farm Cottage" which is a listed building in Scotland Hill.  However, I am suspicious that this might not be the same place.

My ancestor lived at Old Farm and his neighbours on the census page live at Governers House on one side (which seems to be a biggish place as it has a number of servants)

On the other side there are a couple of words that I can't decipher, but its called Laundry Cottage.

The man at the big house seems to be Lt General Duncan Cameron who was in charge of the Military College at Sandhurst so I presume they lived on site.

So I suppose my question is does anyone know if Old Farm was a place either on or near the College.

Roger

Under Street Name on that 1871 entry it states at the top of the page 'Royal Military College'.
I would presume that it was part of the College area

This map may assist:

https://maps.nls.uk/view/104198917

It shows the college and the Governor's House as well as the laundry.  There is just a farm marked, not specifically Old Farm, which I can't see anywhere.  :-\

The description of the enumeration district shows the following:
All that remaining part of the parish of Sandhurst comprising the houses and cottages around the Royal Military College & the Village of Sandhurst round Sandhurst Church and Sandhurst Lodge south & south west of the Public Road & Footpath leading from the Wellington Arms Public House in a northwest direction on to the Wokingham Road thence to the extreme boundary of the parish nearly close to the Wellington College Station
