Thomas Davies
« on: Wednesday 10 April 24 20:51 BST (UK) »
Looking for the father of Uvedale Davies born 18th August 1776 in Mansell Lacy, I think he had a brother James born 1881, suspect there are probably others but I'm struggling moving this search forward.
Fathers name is Thomas Davies, mother Mary Parry, I'm assuming they are born in the area but you never know eh.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks for that ciderdrinker, thats the person I think it is too, the marriage date is the one I already had.
He's 28 years older than the Mary Parry I have, born in 1755 which worries me as the first born child, George Davies was born 1768 when that Mary was 13 and Thomas was 40  :o

You have probably seen this but being named after the Lord of the manor seems unusual.

There are other Mary Parrys in the wider area, for example

Mary Parry
Baptism    1 Aug 1735 Kingstone Near Hereford
Father    Thomas Parry
Mother    Mary

And who's to say Parry's her maiden name - she might have been a widow

I have seen it Mazi yeah, very unusual.
I've been in touch with Hereford Genealogy and they think the Father Thomas may have worked for the Price family, hence a bit of forelock tugging with naming his son after the lord of the Manor.
Even weirder, the lady who runs the website shares Uvedales son James with myself, I've asked her about Thomas but not had a response.

And there in lies my problem Mabel.
I have a Thomas Davies and a Mary Parry married in 1767 and the son Uvedale born in 1776 to a Thomas and Mary Davies.
I've trawled through a number of Mary Parry's and not really been convinced by any of them but your 1735 Mary Parry is a better fit than the 1855 one I already have.
More work to be done I think.
