Irish (County Mayo) Place name
« on: Saturday 13 April 24 23:05 BST (UK) »
Looking at a potential baptism record, and one appears, but I can't read what it says under residence, also the forename of the godmother. Any help is much appreciated

19 October 1830 (born)
21 October 1830 (baptised)

Catherine          Patk. Mangan                    [residence]             William Dunkan/Durkan
                        Brid. Muloy                                                        [?]       Murphy

Maybe Penelope where ‘l’ and ‘n’ have been swapped.

I was thinking a misspelling of Penelope, but not at all sure.  :)

Possibly Pollawarla - https://www.townlands.ie/mayo/tirawley/addergoole/ballynagoraher/pollawarla/

Looks like a close match! Based off other records, close to Castlebar is probably a good bet, if this is the correct record, and that doesn't look too far away, about 10 miles according to Google.

Irish Ancestors doesn’t give anywhere beginning with P for Kilmoremoy
https://www.johngrenham.com/c_parish/c_parish_main.php?civilparishid=1777&civilparish=Kilmoremoy

I was sure it was going to have Pollawarla which looks correct and it was just a matter of confirming it.

Kilmoremoy is on the border with Sligo, the civil parish of Kilmoremoy crosses the border into Sligo
https://www.townlands.ie/mayo/kilmoremoy/ but nowhere starting with P in the Sligo side either.
