Hi LM

I had something too and test was Covid Negative.

When I was a boy, it was glycerine, lemon and honey. But honey is too sweet with my food intolerances.

Get well soon everyone, Mark

Brings back childhood memories, my mum gave me blackcurrant jam and brown sugar slowly  dissolved in the mouth, can't think what else she put in, wasn't achohlic  for sure, might have been lemon, or honey,  might try the red wine medicine!
There seems to be so many things going round  but strangely today I have had a burst of energy.

Brings back childhood memories, my mum gave me blackcurrant ...

LM

The humble Blackcurrant is rich in polyphenols, mainly anthocyanins.

Yes, nice to read people are on the mend.
A very cold breezy bright morning.
Did some big towels ,will soon be dry,

Just thinking about the landing and stairs ,not decorated since the house renovators did  everywhere in “ Trade white” ——-
There is paint that reflects light ,the stairs are not well lit .
Carpet mingled grey.

Landing is small, otherwise I would like a feature wall.
I have some nice prints of Greek vases, terracotta and  black.
Also some pottery my other son brought back from Athens , I would like to use those but—- the landing is very small so a case of”  less is more” .
I also have to cross the top of the stairs to get to the bathroom - so easy to fall down sideways! So landing - such as it is — needs to be clear.
LSo,etime later———
Raining hard now, what a surprise !

Well - Last of The Summer Wine on ,I love it.
Cheerio. Viktoria.
I also need a light at the bottom of the stairs, ,I descend into darkness and can’t differentiate between the last stair and the floor- same carpet on both so I slam down sometimes.
I usually count but I have a small light colour carpet sample on the floor so see that easily and no misjudgement.

Viktoria.

Not sure if dry red wine might cause other problems? I've noticed a dry mouth more often.

But I'm not sure, due to other health conditions. I need sips of water in the night anyway.

My maternal grandfather had a few blackcurrant bushes which provided my grandmother with enough fruit to make absolutely the best jam/preserve.  My parents garden had raspberry canes which didn't seem to fruit, except for one year when it produced one berry., which I sampled and from then on raspberries have been my favourite fresh fruit.

Blackcurrant tea— hot water with a couple of spoons of home made blackcurrant jam dissolved in it —- magic cure .
An Aspirin dissolved in warm water used as a gargle really gets to the pain in throat infections ,no need to swallow it .

A boiled onion ,still hot in a clean cloth on an abscess seems to
“ draw “ out the awful gunge and hence hastens the healing.

Old fashioned remedies ,cost nothing and did the trick very often.
Pre NHS we had nothing else.

Salty water is a good cleanser for wounds .
Clove oil for toothache.

I remember my father getting into trouble with my mother because he had used some of meagre ration allowance to make me Butterballs - Malteser size balls of butter rolled in sugar -  which he said would cure my sore throat.  Don't remember if they worked, but I do remember that they were delicious!  And, yes, blackcurrant tea made with a spoonful of jam in hot water was another sore throat and cold remedy.

Butter had to be scraped onto bread as thinly as possible in those days, and then any possible surplus was scraped off again.  Same for jam, too.  But we did love our bread and jam, an essential for our high tea.
