Miniature Portrait Date

Hello

I am hoping you might be able to give an estimate of the date of these portrait photographs. I think they might be my grandmother's parents (married 1897) or one set of her grandparents (married 1861/1868).

There is one portrait on each side of the medallion which is 3x2.5 cm.

Any information on this style of medallion would be of interest as well.

I would suggest 1870's.
They look in their 50's.
