McMeckan / McClymont
« on: Friday 19 April 24 18:36 BST (UK) »
I am looking for ancestors/descendants of JAMES McMECKAN (born ca. 1809, Portpatrick) and his wife, AGNES McCLYMONT (born ca. 1811, Portpatrick), married ca. 1832 in Portpatrick. I do know of one of their children: AGNES McMECKAN (born 1833, Portpatirck) who married JAMES McNEILLAGE of Old Kilpatrick, Glasgow.

Any help would be much appreciated.

As they were living in Scotland after 1855, and assuming that they died in Scotland, their death certificates should tell you the full names of their parents including their mothers' maiden surnames, assuming that the informant(s) knew that information.

See www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - a small fee is payable to view the original documents.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you so very much for your help. I cannot tell you just how much I appreciate it! I have been searching for this information for years, and am a paying member of ScotlandsPeople, yet somehow it has just eluded me. I suppose that all it takes are "new eyes." Thank you, again!
