Thank you so she was born c1837 England and married 1858.  I wonder if she emigrated alone or with parents.

Fanny CARTER, with an 'origin' of Warwick, sailed from Liverpool on 23 /05/1858 to Port Elizabeth (Algoa Bay):

Apologies Milliepede, I am so disappointed that my fuller replies did not make it through this time yesterday.

Anyway, the only Fanny CARTER in the 1851 census living in Warwickshire that I can find was born in Howden, Yorkshire but that Fanny CARTER married Robert Ainslie REDFORD and remained in England:

I should have started by thanking you for your kind efforts to help Milliepede.

There is no apparent link between the Alexander KENNEDY (in Edinburgh) for whom you kindly provided the census records and the Alexander KENNEDY who married Fanny CARTER in Port Elizabeth, at least as far as I can establish.  That is the dilemma.

(About to turn in as I am in Australia and just got online when I was informed that last night's posts had not gone through.)

There are also a William and Mary CARTER who in 1862 were going to Alex. KENNEDY, a storekeeper in Port Elizabeth:

(Thank you Michelle Elaine.)

That William and Mary appear to have two sons in Grahamstown:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVS4-653R

But the death records for the two sons do not provide any further details about William and Mary.

These are the death records for the two sons of William and Mary CARTER that I can find:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:WDM1-7QN2

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QGKL-V4VJ

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:WC6M-1R3Z

(As with Alexander KENNEDY, I cannot find death records for William and Mary CARTER - who arrived in South Africa in 1862 and/or who are the parents of William and Frederick Swords CARTER, so no further leads to Fanny CARTER there.)

Thank you pampoen.

I do appreciate your continued efforts very much.

It seems that this may be the death record for the William CARTER whose grave stone you located:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS7P-2QC7-1?view=index&personArk=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AQLR2-ZNHV&action=view

If so, it appears that that William CARTER sailed to Durban (from Hull) with his wife Mary and their son John in 1850.

I really got my hopes up then.  Close.

Thank you again.

(Perhaps the William and Mary CARTER who sailed to Port Elizabeth in 1862, going to Alex. KENNEDY, are buried in Grahamstown, where their two boys were born?)

The East Cape Branch of the Genealoggy Society of South Africa has very kindly located an entry in the burial register for St Katherine's Church in Uitenhage (South Africa) for an Alexander KENNEDY  who died on 28 May 1886, aged 51 years.

This therefore appears to match very well with the Alexander KENNEDY born on 25 April 1835 in Edinburgh (who appears to have been in the British merchant navy, with the ioccupation of the Alexander KENNEDY who married Fanny CARTER in Port Elizabeth in 1858 being shown as a "seaman")!!!

Fanny CARTER's origin however still remains elusive...

Thank you to pampoen and milliepede in particular for all of the help provided to date.
