Missing from 1891 census
« on: Sunday 21 April 24 13:56 BST (UK) »

Hi, can anyone with eagle eyes find Catherine Eliza Riley on the 1891 census please?

Catherine was born first quarter 1887 in Chelsea, Middx.  In 1891 her widowed father, William, and brother James are in Cale Street, Chelsea in the home of James Booker, Catherine's uncle.  I've checked on other relatives both maternal and paternal sides and can't find her.  She hadn't died as she's in the 1901 census with her Davison relatives and the 1911 census with William.

With fingers crossed, thank you ;D

In a word, no  :(

Did she always use Catherine or Kate or?

Any other siblings that are missing or just her?

Not just me then!  She's usually known as Kate on the following census.  No other siblings and the only missing person is her paternal grandmother, Eliza Riley born 1819 in Hannington, Wiltshire but resident in Chelsea. Eliza dies in 1894 at 5 Riley Street, Chelsea but she's not there in 1891.

I remember the names from your other topic.

Hopefully the two are together somewhere, in lodgings perhaps  :-\

It would be good to find the two of them in one swoop.  I wonder if they're both in an infirmary somewhere but nothing's come to light.  Yes, I've been dominating the board this weekend trying to fill in some gaps.  Thanks for looking  ;D

her paternal grandmother, Eliza Riley born 1819 in Hannington, Wiltshire but resident in Chelsea. Eliza dies in 1894 at 5 Riley Street...

So Eliza Riley was living on Riley Street? What a coincidence.  ;D  Perhaps Catherine and grandmother are somewhere together in 1891?

Would either have any relatives/friends living at Great White Lion Street, London at the time?
The 1891 census has some missing pages for GWLS, amounting to 140 persons. District 4 of St Giles North sub-district.

Ha ha, that family also have Smiths marrying unrelated Smiths and living in Little Smith Street!

I don't know of any connections to that street but they moved about so often, who knows?  If either of them are in institutions they might be recorded as initials or maybe their badly transcribed  ::)  ill keep looking, they can't be far... ;D

Who was the informant?
Davisons were at 5 Riley Street in 1895.

Her son William.  She's usually with a family member except in 1891!
