Deaths at Sea 1830's and 1840's

Can anyone please advise if there are records for deaths at sea for people migrating to Australia in the 1830's and 1840's via assisted passenger or bounty schemes. Not Covicts.
Would there have been a "surgeon/doctor"on board who kept a journal.

Hi there would have been a doctor/surgeon on board.  And, I tell you where I've seen fatalities mentioned.  That would be in the Australian newspapers.  Looking under the name of the vessel &arrival date. They have printed the passengers lists, names of any passengers that have died and also a mention of any births.

From 1854 records of births, marriages and deaths at sea had, first, to be recorded in ships’ logs. When the ships next docked at a British port the information from the logs was then recorded by the Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen (RGSS). Copies of the RGSS registers were periodically sent to the General Register Office.

Passenger lists are another possible source ....

PS Victoria has marine deaths from 1853 onward, but of course that falls outside of the time period being researched ...
