Joseph James and Marjerie
« on: Tuesday 23 April 24 22:11 BST (UK) »
Joseph James and his wife Marjerie{various spellings} had 5 children baptized at St Mary Nottingham berween 1719 and 1730.I can also find a death for Marjorie James. I cannot find a marriage fir Jiseph James and Marjerie.
There are some Family Trees  which have Joseph marrying Mary Butler in 1714 but I can't confirm that this is my Joseph. I can find no offspring for Joseph and Mary, nor can I finf a death for Mary James. These facts leave me to wonder if Mary and Marjerie are variations on a name

Do you know your Joseph’s occupation?
The one who married Mary Butler (marriage licence is dated 1 January 1714/15 -dual calendar ) is a bricklayer
He is 27 & she is 23
Marriage to be at St Mary’s or Snenton

Original image might show Marg/j instead of Mary perhaps?  Haven’t found that yet.

I looked at all the baptisms not have the occupation of the father.

There is a burial 5 January 1764 Nottingham of a Marjorie James  ref: ancestry

The church is not specified on ancestry but the vicar Berdmore and if you google that he was the vicar of St Mary's.

Thank you everyone for your interest. I had not found the license of Joseph which gives his occupation, unfortunately I haven't found anything that helps in this direction. The will may be of help, I've foubd The Borthwick Institute very helpful in this regard.

Maybe too far away???

Marjary CORTE/Joseph JAMES married 09 Oct 1716, St John the Baptist, Broughton, Lancashire
(FreeREG)

I can see the bapts 1719-1730 on FreeREG also.

There is also a ELIZABETH James 30 Jun 1736 to Joseph/Margaret*

Could Marj... be a variation of Margaret?

Trish :)

Thank you Trish, the Lancashire marriage since I know very little about Joseph anything is possible.
I can't find the original baptism of Elizabeth, I have found other records where the transcription has been Margaret, but a closer look suggests that it may have been Margerie.
I am going to start a new tree for the James family see if that turns up anything useful. It is easier to get rid of while trees rather than mistakes on the main tree,
