St . Giles , Reading
« on: Thursday 25 April 24 19:22 BST (UK) »
Hi all ,
I've just returned from Reading where I have visited the excellent central library and various streets and churches associated with my family past .
St . Giles in Southampton Street has 2 past family members buried within the grounds but gave me no clues as to where their burial site was . The Findagrave site gives the site as plot 12 with no attached picture but I've not been able to find any map or clue ( within the library or online ) as to where this sits within the grounds . I would expect as numerically small in number , it may be near to the church itself .
I visited the church on 4 occasions over 2 days as I was staying very near in the hope that a church warden or local sage maybe onsite , but alas no luck .
I give details of the family members buried within plot 12 and appreciate any thoughts on a further advance in finding the actual site .

Her death was registered in Middlesex. 1891 census shows her living there with married daughter & family

Enquire via the church website:
www.sgilesreading.org.uk
(not a typo, 't' is omitted)

Or try the county archives:
www.royalberkshirearchives.org.uk

Good luck,

Thanks to the 2 Carol's for your replies..I did think of writing to the church and arranging possibly a view of anything they might have for another visit . Sometimes there are documents and info . on site..I have been lucky before on a visit to the Merthyr area .

Might be worth contacting the Berkshire records office in case the church/parish records have been deposited with them.  Sorry just found they're now called the Royal Berkshire Archives.

I have found them very helpful in the past and if you can't find what you're looking for in their catalogue will usually check for you.

I've had a look and there's information to the effect that burials stopped there in 1895.
