Would be interested if anyone could recognise the uniform? Merchant navy has been mentioned but he died when my mother was 6. Could anything be done to the photo to improve quality? Thank you.

Does it say anything useful for occupation on his marriage certificate? Or your mother’s birth certificate?

on one census occupation is listed as capstan operator.
