Hello
I'm not an expert in military affairs and got nowhere from his personal effect record but his WW1 records seem to be.
4 th Loyal North Lancs no 6860
1914 Corps 2/7th Manch. Regt. 5811
1915 Corps  2/10th Manch. Regt. 277455 Pte.
1916 Corps 1/10th Manch. Regt. 277455
by 1918 he was a Lance Corporal.

He got British War and Victory medals but strangely not the 1914 Star.
The record should include theatres of War in which her served but helpfully the clerk has left that blank.

Yes Thanks for that -

We believe he Enlisted in September 1914 as 6860 aged 15 or 16 but lied about his Age as born 1899
 but there is No Trace
The Family believe Jesse died in October 1918 aged 19 but we have no evidence of his age only calculation from 1901 & 1911 Census

War Gratuity is £5 for year 1 & 10s. for every month thereafter.
So 1 year 7 months.
Not sure where Ciderdrinkers dates have come from.

Cheers Jim1
I came to 1 year 7 months also from what you told me in the Past
But then I doubted myself
So I sort reassurance to confirm it all.
That would calculate March 1917 Enlistment?
He would be aged 17 ?
This calculation will disagree with the Family Story

Without a service record it's difficult to know what happened.
He may have enlisted early but got found out & discharged.
At 17 he more than likely had been kept in but not sent overseas
until he was 18 1/2 which I believe at this was the qualifying date
having been reduced from 19.
His War Gratuity would have been calculated from the 1st. completed
month until the last including his home service.

In case it is of interest, his father claimed a dependant's pension which was awarded at the rate of 5 shillings per week payable from 13th May 1919 (image courtesy of the Western Front Association)
